On Thursday, April 12, 12 teams of Purdue students met in the Krannert School of Management for the second annual PowerShift Case Competition, hosted by the Jane Brock-Wilson Women in Management Center and sponsored by Accenture, Phillips 66 and ArcelorMittal.

This competition encourages productive conversations between men and women about real life gender issues in the workplace to help students develop competencies in leading gender-diverse teams. The Harvard Business Review Case focused on a case of gender pay equity. Students offered strategies for pay equity management practices and sustainability.

“The case was a great way to immerse ourselves in a problem that is very complex,” said David Pate (MHRM), a member of Team K’s Konsultants. “This work definitely paid off; I believe all of our team members learned something different about the gender pay gap, and…[have] the knowledge to address the problem of equal pay with confidence.”

Judges for the PowerShift Competition were Michael Courtney (Accenture), Jonathan Rosenberg (Phillips 66), Jennifer McCloud (ArcelorMittal), Tom Puterbaugh (formerly of Spensa Technologies), Charlene Sullivan (Krannert), Whitney Brooks (PureStorage), Meara Habashi (Krannert), Susan Jischke (IBM), Candy King (Roche Diagnostics), and Amy David (Krannert).
